Dirty Dancing Remake Announced

10 Aug

It has just been announced that the 1987 film classic ‘Dirty Dancing’ is to be remade.

The original films choreographer Kenny Ortega (director of High School Musical & Michael Jackson This Is It) is the man behind the remake, which was confirmed by Lionsgate yesterday.

Ortega promises to bring the film’s story to a new generation. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey were so iconic in the original film playing ‘Baby’ and ‘Johnny Castle’, that it is hard to imagine anyone who could live up to the roles. Ortega however, seems confident that there are enough talented young actors and dancers out there to form a fantastic cast. Rumors that Justin Timberlake is one of the favorites to play ‘Johnny’ are rife.

A spin off film ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights’ was released in 2004, with a new cast and plot. Although the film wasn’t a big success, many actually feel the reception was under-rated.
