Whitney Houston & Jordin Sparks To Star In Diana Ross & The Supremes Biopic

13 Sep

Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks are rumored to be lined up for a remake of The Supremes Biopic ‘Sparkle’.

The remake of the 1976 drama will follow the lives of The Williams sisters- characters based up on Diana Ross and The Supremes. The film will be directed by Salim Akil.

Jordin Sparks is set to play the lead role in the film, whilst Whitney Houston is expected to play the role of Jordin Spark’s mother. The film follows three sisters who start out singing in a church choir in Harlem, before becoming a girlgroup destined for fame. Jordin Sparks’s character will not only have to fight her mother to follow her dream, but will also along the way find out the price of fame.

The film will be Jordin Sparks’s acting debut, and the first film Whitney has appeared in since her 1996 hit ‘The Preacher’s Wife’. It is likely that comparisons will be drawn between ‘Sparkle’ with the 2006 Oscar-winning film ‘Dreamgirls’ which stared Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Hudson, which was also based upon the career of Diana Ross and The Supremes. Like Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks shot to fame on American Idol, however with the addition of Whitney Houston to the film, it has the potential to be an even bigger hit than ‘Dreamgirls’, as long as Whitney is in a good mental state whilst filming.

Sarah Jessica Parker Hints At A Third ‘Sex And The City’ Film

20 Aug

Sarah Jessica Parker has recently revealed that she thinks it is likely there will be a third ‘Sex and the City’ film.

The leading actress has openly discussed her desire to play her character ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ once more on the big screen to Parade magazine. Talking about possible story lines the four leading ladies could encounter, Parker doesn’t seem to feel that the slightly dissapointing ratings of ‘Sex and the City 2’ could harper any chances of a third film.

As well as a third film, rumors have recently been circulating that there are plans to create a prequel series of ‘Sex and the City’ based upon author Candice Bushnell’s novel ‘The Carrie Diaries’. Young actresses such as Selena Gomez, Blake Lively and Emma Roberts have all been linked to the series, which would follow ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ during her High School years in the 1980’s. CW have denied any involvement in the project, however the potential to run the series has been confirmed by a HBO representative.

Johnny Depp To Fund ‘The Lone Ranger’ Movie

19 Aug

Johnny Depp’s latest movie project ‘The Lone Ranger’ was reportedly cancelled by Disney last week due to increasing budget demands. The film which is based upon the popular radio and television series of the same name, was already in production, and a release date of December 21st, 2012, had been set.

Disney shut down all production of the film as soon as it became apparent that costs would exceed over £30million above the maximum budget set. However, it has now been reported that Johnny Depp has offered to fund the extra production costs himself, in order to continue work on the film.

Johnny Depp has to be one of the most dedicated actors in Hollywood, so it’s doesn’t come as a massive surprise that he has offered his own money to get the film going again. Depp was set to play the lead character’s sidekick ‘Tonto’ in the film, a role which he prepared greatly for and understandably wants to follow through.

Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three Pirate’s of the Caribbean films, was set to direct ‘The Lone Ranger’. The pair clearly work well together, so hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement with Disney, so that filming can continue.
